Frames make ideal gifts for almost any occasion because everyone has pictures to be hung. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that everyone has pictures to be hung that aren’t on the wall yet because they need to be framed.

Frames can be purchased but there’s a good chance you won’t find exactly what you are looking for. The ideal frame for a picture to give as a gift depends on:

>> The type of artwork or picture to be framed

>> The picture theme

>> The size of the picture

>> Colors in the picture or artwork

Custom made frames are very expensive. Even small frames can run into hundreds or dollars. You could buy framing materials from a business selling art supplies in Chicago, IL and be able to re-use the framing equipment over and over again. All you will have to buy for each frame is the actual materials that will go into the frame. Since you have the equipment already, expenses are kept low.

You ordered the frame so now must pay for it.

Because of the affordability and ease of modern computers, it’s almost a given that we utilize a standard word processing program for our daily writing assignments. In spite of the fact that machines can’t analyze the english language as used by native-born speakers, great progress is being made that you should be aware of. You’re no doubt used to investing hard work in your writing, but while doing some research i learned about a new solution that automatically corrects your english writing. Distinct from the word processing programs most of are familiar with, this system is not just able to catch your english writing errors; as a bonus, it ranks any given text’s writing level from 1-5. Think of writing english papers that are accomplished, correct, and unforgettable – in literally moments your text will be ready to go.

I am quite sure that the time is coming soon that all users will enjoy having such a grammar aid included with their new computers. Through the use of these applications, you’ll be able to get your point across more clearly, especially if communicating via the written word has always been difficult. Originally designed to serve the greatest number of writers, it’s equipped to run on any Type of pc with windows. To make it even better, it makes whatever english project you’re struggling with not only effortless – but quite fun.

The moment you try out a revising & editing program you’ll immediately be aware of the wonderful assistance that it supplies. It’s certain that, in many situations, these programs can be a reliable way to go rather than a professional proofreader’s help. I think (and it’s not just wishful thinking) that we’ll be able to choose from more of these utilities in our day and age – everyone can benefit from this new technology. So now that you’ve been briefed on the subject, I would advise you to simply try this technology; it’s possible to start reaping the rewards and you definitely won’t regret taking this step. As a bonus, if there are any students in your family, then it can definitely help them to build a strong foundation in english.

Learn How to Draw – Seven Drafting Tips For Fast Results When Learning Drawing

Discover seven important tricks that will assist you through the next stairs of your drafting career:

In recent contributions you discovered how to understand your depicted objects better, to master your fear of failure and how to practice your draftsmanship unshakably.

Within this article I will show you seven important tricks that will assist you through the next stairs of your drafting career:

1. Get a sketch pad at the next art supply store. This cannot be stressed enough. Get one of those nice sketch blocks and take it with you everywhere you go! It enables you to use every free minute for practising your draftsmanship and depict captivating scenes you come across.

2. Keep your draftings secure. As crucial as having a sketch pad (and keeping them after you’ve filled them) is to keep everything you draw. Acquire a folder to stack away them safely and secure from harm. Ne’er discard any of your draftings. So you will accumulate a decent portfolio and can consult your late oeuvres for inspiration and to keep track of your advancements.

3. Pick apart your draftings later. Remember, we discoursed in the part about combating your fear of failure – do not be overly judgmental about your projects. Whenever the small critic in you wants to jump into action, outmaneuver him. Hide away your picture (in your folder) and tell him “later”. In a few days or weeks you can see your creation in a much more friendly light than today.

4. Depicting from life is ideal. You’ll understand: drawing real-life objects seems to be more difficult than merely imitating photographs or other draftings. But it’s a great deal more rewarding and your draftings will be much brisker and realistic. How does it work? I do not know for certain, but I would speculate our brains somehow assimilates the scene with all senses returning you additional inspiration to draw on the sheet.

5. Don’t depict complicated objects. Avoid objects that are too complicated. Rather start with simple subjects that you are able to capture and picture as proficient as you wish it to be. And then increment the level of difficulty in small steps so your draftsmanship has time to grow with each little challenge you’re confronting yourself with.

6. Don’t go into details excessively. While sketching, less is more. Nearly all of us tend towards inserting details excessively, too many small lines, uncountable numbers of unimportant objects. Don’t attempt to render all the details you see. Instead try to capture the scene at large, soak up how it looks as whole and put this to onto the sheet employing only few lines.

7. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Oh and did I tell you? Practice! You cannot sketch too often. All of the time bear in mind: every line you draw, every drafting or outlining you complete increases your draftsmanship and brings you one step forward. Practise by drawing scenes you come across in everydays life into your sketch pad. Practise by doing the exercises I have presented. Just practise.

Keep these tips in mind and you’ll soon realize great improvements in your drawing skills!

Making Careful Purchases for Art Supplies

It is important when you are starting off as an artist to get all of the right sort of art supplies for your level. Think carefully about your new hobby and whether you think that it is something that you will want to do long term. Do you really enjoy it, is it something you can afford, do you have the time to dedicate to it and are you good at it and most importantly do you see yourself continuing with it for at least a few years. It is worth thinking about all of these questions if you are thinking about making an expensive purchase. Buying a few brushes, some paper and watercolours is not that expensive but if you are thinking of getting a drafting table or some easels then you need to think a bit more carefully about what you are doing.

You may be the sort of person that starts a new hobby and then stops after a few months and all the things that you have bought have been put in the garage, never to be used again. In this economic climate, none of us can afford to waste our money like that and so every purchase should be carefully considered. However, if you know that you are going to get a lot of use out of the item that you are considering buying then it is worth getting it. However, before you buy you will need to think hard about the quality of the item and whether it is worth spending a bit more money for something that is going to last a nice long time.

Sometimes if you buy a cheap item, it will not last that long but by investing in something more expensive, you can be sure that it is a good quality. This is not always the case though, so choosing the right item is very important. Price is not always the only factor, the most expensive may not be the best – you may find there is little difference between a mid range item and a top of the range and so it is something that you will need to look into really carefully before you buy. So firstly consider whether you will get enough use out of the item to justify the purchase and then decide how much you think is the right amount of money to spend on it.

Many Supplies For Creating Art

Many artists will display their artistic abilities at an early age. These are children that often use walls as a canvas and might choose to use various shades of color that could come from a variety of pencils, pens and crayons that they find at eye-level throughout the home. The art that they create might not be purchased by a local art gallery but it may be photographed and placed in a family album.

Some artists will choose to buy their art supplies from a local craft store. These stores tend to have a larger selection of paints because the paints can be used on a variety of projects that are for sale in the store. The selection of paints might be offered in tubes that can dispense paint onto boards where they can be combined with other colors as the artist paints a variety of images on a variety of materials.

The mediums used to display art can be canvas that is framed and offered in various sizes, or a sketch pad that is specially formulated to allow lead to adhere to the surface or be smudged a bit when the artist wants to show a bit more detail in the art that they are creating. The artists will be supplied with many types of lead to create silhouette paintings or landscapes that are roughly finished.

Many artists treat all of their supplies in a haphazard manner. Many friends might relate this treatment of the supplies as a form of creative expression. The artist always seems to know where to find the supplies that they need to accomplish any form of artwork that they are hired to make. A creative artist may have learned to improvise on supplies at times because they have not had a paying customer in a while.

Some artists prefer to sketch images out in rough draft before they apply those images to canvas. Canvas paintings are usually very expensive and artists will usually reserve their best paints to achieve a beautiful painting in the end. These pieces of art will usually be placed in real wood frames and later sealed on the back to project a professionally finished project that is ready for hanging anywhere.

An artist will keep a ready supply of all of the instruments that they use on a day to day basis including tools for sculpting and those tools and special pens that are used to write calligraphy. Every artist will always maintain an arsenal of brushes that they will use to apply a varied amount of colored paints to many surfaces. Some of those brushes will be synthetic and the better brushes will be made from horsehair.

Every artist will keep their best paintings in a portfolio that will be used to present art to customers. These protective folders are quite large in size and the artist can always be sure that the paintings remain safe inside when they tie the strings of the portfolio together and use it as a handy strap to carry the portfolio from one location to another. An artist will place a lot of value into the supplies they own because these supplies are the method that allows them to be creative.

Protect Your Art Work- Everything You Need to Know About Caring for Art

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life. “
~William Faulkner.

I’m sure when Faulkner made this profound statement he was not referring to storage, framing and displaying techniques that make sure your art work moves again a century later.  I guess though, his reference to “artificial means” could be stretched to encompass conservation methods.

If only I could alter Ben Jonson’s famous quote “Art hath an enemy called ignorance” and switch the word ignorance to UV rays and humidity!

If you own pieces of art worth more than the frame they’re set in then you should know that your art collection can deteriorate in quality and loose its value over time if not protected.

Care for your original art prints starts long before you buy it, which is why it is imperative to ask the seller the materials that were used in making and conserving the piece and where and how the art was stored- especially, if you’re buying from an online seller and not directly from a gallery.

From initial research before buying to transportation, storage, framing and hanging, special care will ensure integrity and longevity of your art piece.

Before buying get all the information you can, make sure:

The artist did not use fugitive materials that can fade

No optical brighteners were applied

Only color fast and acid free materials were used

Proper storage was maintained

After you have purchased the art work you need to figure out transportation:

When packing and shipping your art, it’s important to find materials that will provide maximum protection during their journey. If your art piece is an unusual size or dimension, you might need to have a custom box made. Sometimes art stores will give you one.
There are specialty shipping companies that handle rare and costly goods and you pay a premium for their handling abilities. They have special wrapping and packaging materials depending on the medium and size of your art. Check on the covered insurance if your piece is valuable.

Once delivered you need to store it before framing or mounting:

Loose artwork should be stored in shallow drawers and cabinets to prevent scuffing and weight build-up. Try and keep similar sized pieces together. Also, always place sheets between your pieces.

Framed prints and documents should always be stored vertically and preferably in cabinets, separated by foam or felt covered separators.  For long term storage, all hanging devices and wires should be removed to prevent damage to other pieces.

Ready For Framing and Display; Make sure the following are used:

Conservation framing techniques

Archival mat boards and

Archival mounting materials

Proper hanging hardware for your type of wall and only picture hooks that will bear the weight of the framed picture.

Two hooks to hang anything larger than 8” x 10”.

Display and caring for your art:

Pick a spot away from direct sunlight or draft

Avoid extreme temperature and humidity

Do not place over a fireplace

Use air conditioning or de humidifiers if needed

Rotate the artwork around your house regularly

Clean with special cloth and cleaning supplies do not let chemicals rundown inside

For extended care change the back paper of the art every few years and clean the surface to avoid mildew and insects from getting in.

Where to Find Art Supplies

Most people have at least some artistic inclination. Of course, most people also have a personal computer and, more and more, that’s where they express themselves. This makes shopping a bit more difficult for those who prefer to do their art the old fashioned way. There are art supply houses, however, that still sell materials for artists who like to work on something more engaging than a screen. Supplies such as foamboard and other necessities can be purchased from these suppliers at good rates. There are some other advantages to such products becoming more specialized, as well.

One of the primary advantages to purchasing professional art supplies is that they’re not made for the general market. The foamboard purchased from professional suppliers, for instance, usually contains no acids or other materials that will degrade the piece affixed to it. They are also more durable and easily worked with than lower-grade supplies. If you’re doing professional work, it makes sense to do it with professional quality materials. It makes everything, from the conception of a piece to its eventual execution and display, much easier. Good supplies are the foundation of high-quality art.

Sometimes, you may need supplies that aren’t mere consumables. These may include furniture that’s’ suitable for producing large-scale pieces of art. Much to the delight of artists everywhere, drafting tables are still available. There are some caveats here, however. Some cheap drafting tables on the market don’t have all of the adjustment capabilities of real drafting tables. They also may not be quite large enough to accommodate the size of the drawings that are commonly rendered on them. To avoid having issues with a piece of furniture, it’s best to buy all of your art supplies from a store that sells to professional artists.

Art supply houses usually have plenty of other items, as well. Artists who work in many different mediums will usually be able to find whatever they need at such businesses. Some artists also use suppliers as a way to order rare materials they may need. In some cases, art supplies that are more specialized can be found in the general stock of a supply house. While some common materials may be available at hobby stores, there’s usually a definite limit to the sophistication of the products available at those stores and, ultimately, to their quality, as well.

Businesses, teachers, artists and people who just have a passing interest in art can usually find interesting products among the art supplies at specialty stores. They’re usually designed for the professional, which has its advantages for the everyday consumer, as well. Rather than catering to those with only a hobby interest, these suppliers have to assume that their clients are the top artists in their given fields and have to stock accordingly. For those who are hobbyists, this means that the products available at art suppliers are of a much higher quality than in the past and that the prices are affordable and attractive.

Need an Art Studio

If it’s to be believed that most artists are low on funds, then finding an affordable art space can become a tricky endeavor. Though the artist needs to find a place to sculpt, paint, or just create, the studio rental prices can be exorbitant for even the largest budget. But there are ways to find an art studio and not become even more of the starving artist that you already are. Here are three tips that you can look into today.

First of all, look around your house – is there any space that you can utilize more effectively? In many cases, you will be able to find an art studio space that can be both comfortable and practical. For example, if you have a garage, you might be able to install a portable heater and the tools that you need to create the ideal artist’s space. With minimal funds, you can pick up a sturdy table to support your work as well as lighting to properly illuminate your area when you’re working. You can even scrounge garage sales and the classified for these items – many people are trying to clear out their own homes and don’t know what to do with these pieces, so they’re willing to let go of them for next to nothing.

Another way to create an art studio is to talk to a friend or family member about renting out a portion of their home. Maybe they have a workshop or a garage space that you may be able to use. Granted, you will probably want to pay for a space like, but it will be much less expensive than the other options that you might have. It will help in this case to draft up a contract to outline the terms of your use of the space, as well as make up any penalties for damaging the property as well as outline the rent that you agree to set. While it might seem like a formality, it can be difficult to sort out problems with a rental agreement when you’re friends or related to the renting party.

Yet another option is for you to utilize the space in your own backyard is through steel buildings. These sturdy spaces can be bought or put together by you in order to fashion the space that you need. The metal buildings can be equipped with heaters and ventilation systems as well to provide a healthy environment for you to work in – no matter what media you are working with. You can find a large assortment of metal buildings and steel buildings at your local hardware store or construction supply store.

When you’re an artist with a dream to build and create, you need a space to do it in. With these ideas, you might be able to save some of your money to actually buy the supplies you need in order to become the famous artist you aspire to be. Why be a starving artist when you don’t need to be?
