Choosing the Right Planner for Someone With ADHD

Choosing the right planner for you and your lifestyle is very important, especially if you are busy, overwhelmed by your To Do List and/or have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD). This is true no matter what profession you hold and no matter what your age. By third grade, even elementary school students need some type of planner or way to keep track of assignments.

ADHD creates significant for people when it comes to using a planner and therefore managing their time.

Your list might be too overwhelming, you might forget to look at your planner or perhaps there are other reasons. I am frequently asked to recommend the best planner for someone with ADHD. The bad news is that there is not one best planner. The good news is that I can still help you select the best planner, especially if you have ADHD.

Prioritize

If you have determined that you need a better system of planning (or just need to start one!), I first recommend that you prioritize what planner characteristics are important to you. The checklist at the end of this article will help you focus on your priorities and provide you with a template of what needs to exist with your next planner.

To use the checklist, place a check mark next to each characteristic you would like to have in a planner and indicate an A, B or C priority next to each characteristic you check.

• A = planner must have this

• B = would be nice for planner to have this

• C = not so important to me

After you select which characteristics are important, take the list with you to the store or have it next to you while you search on-line. This will help narrow your search and end up with a planner that really works for you.

• If you currently use multiple planners, try to consolidate into one.

• After you purchase your planner, commit to using it for at least one month.

• Keep it in a location where you will review it every day.

Select Your Planner

How to Choose the Right Rubber Stamps

Years ago there was only one option for rubber stamps and the crafter. The typical wood mounted rubber stamp. Many of the old rubber stamps also came with handles like business stamps today, while others had simple pegs. Natural rubber creates the clearest, most detailed image of all the stamp types. So which is best? Foam, unmounted, clear, or mounted, we will have to leave the choice up to you. The truth is, they all have their place for certain projects. If your next project is going to be on fabric, or you want to stamp baby room walls, we’d recommend you find some high-quality, foam stamps. You need professional help and you need it now! A party planner is the person for you!

The first thing you need to consider is whether or not your occasion is actually an event. Party planning has become so specialized in recent years that not all events are, well, events. The more business-like events – training seminars, merger deals, and new product development sessions – where food and drink are either kept at a minimum or served offsite are now considered “meetings” and have their own special meeting planners to handle their particular specifics. Most other events, with food, drink, entertainment and a theme or festive purpose, are just that – events. Professional event planners deal with the myriad of details that such occasions warrant.

Now that you know which type of planner you need to consult, your next decision should be just how much control over the planning you intend to give to the planner, and how much that planner charges for those services. Some planners like to “do it all” – you basically give them the date, number of expected guests, theme or purpose of event and they do the rest. They’ll find you the venue, the caterer, the entertainment, the decorations, flowers, and everything right down to the party favors. You’ll have final say, of course, but other than that, you can sit back and let them do the work for you. Your only worry is whether your tux or gown will come back from the cleaners on time. Other planners will merely suggest, or “paper plan” the event, giving you lists of caterers, venues and whatnot suitable for an event such as yours. Then, you have to check each one out, make the reservations, make the decisions, do the leg work. And then there is the majority of planners who prefer to fall somewhere in between those two extremes.

Each planner has charges or fees for each type of service they do. Your budget is going to become a great factor in just how much involvement your planner has in your event. Be sure to ask for proposals. Don’t automatically go with the lowest bidder, though. As we will see, there are other factors and qualities to choosing the perfect planner for your next event than the bottom line. Asking your prospective planner a few questions can help determine which is the right person or service for you.

What are the nature of your business, and the projected tone of the event? Are you a high profile law firm? Then a more subdued atmosphere to your holiday party is probably in better keeping with your clientele and personnel. Does your business specialize in creative web development? If so, then a masquerade dinner party to honor the year’s top employees may be greatly anticipated and highly attended. Your event planner needs to understand the nature of your business and the overall personality of your people. This is never more important when asking the planner to handle decorations, venues and other details that will set the style and mood of the party.

Is your planner flexible? Is your planner experienced? If your supervisor suddenly decides to add the guys from R & D to the product launch festivities, how will your planner deal with the change in plans? Can your planner manage several types of events, or do they prefer to deal with just one or two kinds? There are great party planners that wouldn’t know how to cope with the media rich atmosphere of a product launch. And on the flip side, there are great planners who wouldn’t bat an eye at something like a launch, but wouldn’t dream of doing a sedate and subdued cocktail party. As we stated earlier, party planning has become very specialized, and while not every planner has chosen a specific niche, you want to make sure that your planner has had experience in the style of event you’re planning.

Lastly, try and discern your planner’s availability and communication style before hiring. A planner that only works in the evening may not be suitable for your business, unless you like making business calls from home. Likewise, a planner who is never available for calls, or prefers text messaging or emails, may not be as reachable as you’d desire or require them to be. All business people are busy. All of us become unavailable at times. But a part planner who is never around when you need them is not the type you need.

In any case, before hiring a planner, you should ask for references. Your business will be spending hard-earned money on both the event and the planner. You can’t afford to hire the lowest bidder if they are someone not experienced enough, not available enough or not trustworthy enough. Your event is special to your business and its people. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be worried about it enough to want to hire a party planner. Just make sure that the planner you hire is as special as the event you’re planning.

Choosing The Right 3 Ring Presentation Binder For Your Needs

Three ring binders are an awesome way to store and display information in a way that is readily accessible. In fact, they are ideal for binding training manuals, product information and large reports. Many companies choose presentation binders for this type of application. Also known as clear view or clear overlay binders, each binder has a clear vinyl overlay on the front, back and spine. These clear vinyl overlays allow you to insert a title page, your company information and the title of your report or document. This allows you to customize your binder for your report and for your needs.

As simple as this sounds, there are actually a number of different things to consider when you are looking for a three ring presentation binder. Here are five things …

1. Color: Clear overlay binders are most commonly available in white. However, if you look hard you will probably be able to find almost all of the different binders in black as well. A limited number of clear overlay binders are available in navy blue. Other colors would have to be custom produced and would potentially be very expensive.

2. Ring Style: Clear view 3-ring binders are available in three standard ring configurations. The two most common ring styles are round ring and D-ring. However, binders can also be purchased with ez-load d-rings. D-ring binders and ez-load binders tend to be a better fit for large documents while round ring binders are most commonly used for smaller presentations. Generally, round ring binders have the rings attached to the spine of the binder while d-ring binders and ezload binders have the rings attached to the back cover of the binder.

3. Thickness: Presentation binders are available with rings as small as 1/2″ in diameter or as large as 4″ in diameter. Generally, binders are available in half inch increments. It is important to note that binders over 3″ are not available with round rings and that the size of the binder rings does not reflect that actual size of the binder on the shelf.

4. Size: Most clearview binders are designed for 8.5″ x 11″ letter size documents. However, if you are looking for binders that will accomidate your half letter sized documents, legal documents or 11″ x 17″ presentations there are some options available. These options are much more difficult to find and often the options available in these sizes is considerably limited vs. regular letter sized binders.

5. Quality: There are a number of factors to look for when considering the quality of a clear view presentation binder. Clear view binders are available with different grades of clear vinyl on the front, back and spine. Higher quality binders will use vinyl that will not transfer toner from your documents allowing you to reuse the binders. Higher quality binders will also use heavier chipboard, have deeper pockets on the inside and will often include sheet lifters. If you plan on reusing your presentation binders for multiple reports or presentations, these are all things that you should look for.

Using these five features you should be able to better choose the best clear view presentation binder for your organization. While you make your choice, keep in mind that many of the clear view presentation binders available on the market are designed for one time use and are not constructed with high quality materials. If you plan on reusing your binders and don’t want them to fall apart in the hands of your clients you might want to consider purchasing higher quality binders.

I got some of my boxes that I’d shipped from Japan to California via a special kind of surface mail – a cheaper book rate. I did save a bunch of money over standard sea mail, and the boxes took about the same length of time (about 7 weeks) to arrive, but they arrived all beaten up and one of the four boxes was completely torn apart. (Luckily the boxes are put in canvas bags for transport and that helped keep the contents of the box all together – and ironically the canvas bag that had two boxes in it was the one that incurred the least amount of damage) So be careful when shipping stuff home to yourself and be aware that it’s gonna be expensive (especially if you need it to arrive quickly and you have to use air mail) and if you use 2nd class SAL or 3rd class surface it will take 4 to 7 weeks for your boxes to arrive.
